We are already at 140+ subscribers for this Substack. Again, I thank you all for joining, and with these first posts I’ll continue to share with you what I am discovering.
For today, I learned that Substack is strongly geared to making sure content creators get paid for their work. This is a good thing, in my opinion, because as Saint Paul says, “the worker deserves his wages” (1 Timothy 5:18)
In my case, though, I’ve never felt comfortable getting paid for ministry beyond the salary I regularly earn, so I only turned on the “free” version of the posts. But while I didn’t turn on the “paid” version, the system assumed I would eventually and so it let people pledge money in advance. I didn’t even realise that was happening until someone mentioned it to me today.
To my great surprise, there are people who already made a pledge of that sort! I am very touched by their generosity, but it is a bit soon right now. I don’t want anyone to feel like they are being cheated if it takes me a while to get this going, as after all I do have a day job! :-)
So for now, I have turned off the “pledge” option. For those who pledged already, I know you did so out of love and I want to respect your generosity nevertheless, so if you feel so motivated you can simply make a donation to the Clergy Benefit Fund of my diocese, to assist our priests, or to any other worthy charity they would like to support. Together we can pay it forward.
God bless you, and thank you for your prayers!
